Unexclaimed

Well as I know this shit, um, i mean, new band, I thought I'd be the first to blog about them, though I'm not offering up any mp3s right now. They're reasonably good I must say, though definitely there is room for improvement! LOL they'll read this and probably give me some right dirty evils or punch me.

Here is them performing their song 'Once Again'

Make your way over to their Myspace now!
Unexclaimed
(They really should do something about the background XD)

I'm not unhappy just thought of some other songs that are good if you're in a bad mood, or just generally upset.

The whole album of 'The Eraser' by Thom Yorke is particularly depressing, overall it stands out, I love it to bits and I have listened to it many times over and overm there are no real weak points on the album. Here is the track I think is the most harrowing, ironically; I do like singing it too, though no one can really replicate Thom's voice (I'm thinking of you Matt Bellamy!)
Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill

Well if you're having girl problems relationships troubles there are a few songs that I like to listen to when I'm in those situations, these really suit those moods/feelings

Hot Chip - Boy from School

Black Kids - I'm not Gonna teach your Boyfriend I know its upbeat but the lyrical content reflects a story I can relate with

The Smiths - How Soon is Now

The White Stripes - Fell in love with a Girl

The Vines - Get Free (Works if you're angry about what may have happened)

The Stone Roses - I Wanna be Adored

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Look for the Woman

Mystery Jets - Young Love

And also the perfect a-polly-ology song:
Jack Penate - Have I Been a Fool?

A selection of covers for your listening pleasure

The Young Knives - Stand and Deliever (Live) (Adam and the Ants)

Does it offend you, Yeah? - Whip it (Live) (Devo)

Radiohead - The Headmaster Ritual (The Smiths)

Get Cape Wear Cape Fly - D.A.N.C.E (Justice)

The following two aren't covers but instead rappers Hip Hop Artists rapping over the top of these songs, Kanye West on his own over the top of Young Folks and then it's him, Lupe Fiasco and Pharrel as 'CRS' on The Eraser

Kanye West - Young Folks (Peter Bjorn and John)

CRS - US Placers (Using Thom Yorke's 'The Eraser')

A-polly-ologies
I had no oportunity to post Tuesday Tuneage last week, no access to a pc, see?
Oh well, I think the tracks today will more than make up for it.

They've all had very heavy rotation on my phone recently

First up, its the Ting Tings, there is a skill to making an advert and Apple have mastered it by using 'Shut up and let me go', showing off an ever popular product and matching it up with an increasingly popular band makes excellent commercial sense, in other words - big bucks all round!
The Ting Tings - Shut up and let me Go

Nextly, the Young Knives, this latest single is just an all round brilliant song. And catchy to boot! I love it already and the video is pretty funny too
Young Knives - Turn Tail

Following on, this brilliant live rendition of Radiohead's Bangers n' Mash, sourced from Pitchfork TV - it has Thom on accompanying drums!
Radiohead - Bangers n' Mash

I did end up getting the Raconteurs new album and must say I am very impressed, its definitely bigger and bolder and I personally prefer this new direction of Jack White's 'new' band.
Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

To round off this week's Tuneage, I choose The Futurehead's latest single, a great way to prefice the album and a brilliant follow on from radio-comandeering 'Beginning of the Twist'
The Fuutreheads - Radio Heart

Oh and plus as a bonus, it's Plugs! with That Number, i did promise to post it as I mistakedly posted that remix instead
Plugs - That Number

At a Low

I'm feeling rather blue at the current time, perhaps even depressed you could say, well when I feel like this music helps, even if they make me more upset. Crying helps too!

A few songs that I listen too if upset

Radiohead - Reckoner It just makes me reflect, makes me feel possibly worse, its a song i don't know how I lived without, I'm not trying to sound melodramatic but this song helps and hinders in equal measure, I love the song and in particualr Thom Yorke's voice.

Joy Division - Love will tear us apart I think this song needs no introduction at all to be honest, it haunts me with Ian Curtis' voice and I love every second of it even if it is the only song by Joy Division given any recognition

Apoligies for excessive Joy Division in the last few posts aswell

This is the End

Well I've finished my proper school time now, only have to go back for exams, the results and the prom which is not at the school so technically don't count.

Its been a very fun five years at Winton, with plenty of downs for me but majoritively it's been good.

We had a leaver's assembly with a powerpoint of a selection of incredibly humourous pictures from throughout the last few years, though the selection of accompanying music to me was not good, that's how I've linked to posting it here, see I think these songs are better!

The Libertines - Don't Look Back Into the Sun

Joy Division - Atmosphere

My Obsesssion

Posted In: . By Nathan

I admit it, I am obsessed with Joy Division and most particularly doomed front man Ian Curtis. Who can blame me? I bought 'Control' after its many shimmering reviews and thoroughly enjoyed it, the way Curtis is played by Sam Riley made me admire this singer who fought against everything holding him back to produce music. Then again it made me hate him aswell, the way he treats his wife Deborah is almost sickening and he knows it too, see the regret in his tears after she discovers his affair. Of course, thats just a dramatised film. I then went out and bough 'Touching from a Distance' the biography of Ian written by Deborah.

With that book, I took in as much information as I could, it is testament to the bravery of Deborah Curtis to dig up all the information and reveal hsi secrets, writing mostly unbiased opinions on his actions. It is a sad book, you'd be easily fooled to believing this was the life of an unfortunate Coronation Street character or the like because of the amount of drama and the events involved with Ian Curtis.

After both the film and the book I have come to see Ian Curtis as an idol, to me he is one of my heroes and that is for the music. In the film Control the cast excellently perform the songs themselves really capturing the live essence of Joy Division. Take a look at the performance of 'Dead Souls' below

I've painted 'HATE' onto the back of my backpack, Curtis' attempt at being a punk, (I didn't really want to buy a donkey jacket) and painted two portraits of Curtis for my GCSE art exam piece. They both turned out really good, along with my substanial explanations on why he was relevant to the project.

The music reaches out to me and I really enjoy nearly all of thier songs that just show Ian's emotions truly. Reading the lyrics at the back of 'Touching from a Distance' reveals how secretive he is, I think as no one took the lyrics seriously before his death he used the songs to vent his feelings that he would otherwise hide away.

Here are a few tracks, 'No love lost' is the ultimate track to listen to while walking!

Joy Division - No Love Lost
Joy Division - Disorder
Joy Division - Colony

Ok, second in the annual posts; since last week the following tracks have been on repeat on my walkman phone

first the Hot Chip cover of Wiley's 'Wearing my Rolex' - i believe its better than the original!
Hot Chip - Wearing my Rolex

Side project (or is it first band?) of Morgan from Does it offend you,Yeah? very good I must say
Plugs - That Number
EDIT: I apoligize, I realised that I have put up a remix file rather than the actual song, I'll put it up in my next post

I really like the new WAS single, 'Chick Lit' the video is ace!

Also at this current time I have to say I have been really enjoying Audioslave's 'Cochise', it's old but oh well, it's good to have a mix now and again
Audioslave - Cochise

And to round off this week, it's The futureheads, for along time my favourite band until I properly listened to Radiohead, I think that this is such a great song! Hopefully their 3rd album delivers on the promises of revitalising their career
Futureheads - Broke up the Time

There is a new band that's cropped up in the MTV2 play-list recently, the Derry based, Fighting with Wire and I have got to admit that I really really like their song 'Everyone needs a Nemesis" it is such a good song! Well as I knew absolutely nothing about them I decided to look into it a bit, here is their Myspace description;

"Fighting With Wire emerged from the ever creative Northern Ireland music scene in 2003, the brainchild of guitarist Cahir O’Doherty (Jetplane Landing / Clearshot) and drummer Craig McKean (Clearshot). An idealistic bunch, they’ve since done what rock bands are meant to do: they wrote a bunch of songs, and took to the road. The last three years has seen them play shows with the likes of Reuben, Biffy Clyro, Million Dead, Seafood, YCNI:M and Future Of The Left, racking up hundreds of miles and honing their live show into a ferocious explosion in the process. After putting out a number of limited edition DIY singles, they took a breather at the end of 2006 and finally started work on their longawaited debut album. Recorded in Northern Ireland and finally completed in mid-2007, Man Vs Monster is a dynamic beast of a record – raging out of your speakers one moment yet gentle and intricate the next, and all without losing focus of what’s important: the song. What’s next for Fighting With Wire? More touring and more songs, we would expect."

Enjoy the song below!
Fighting with Wire - Everyone needs a Nemesis

I want to calm down abit with the posts and think that i'll start a regular tuesday piece, well mainly for the alliteration lolz.

This is going to hold my 5 favourite songs at the current time, in no particular order mind you!

Firstly, Vampire Weekend, my new favourite of theirs, 'Boston', it makes me very happy and feel upbeat, if that's possible
Vampire Weekend - Boston mp3

Next, Last Shadow Puppets, i think that 'In my Room' is an amazing song, the orchestral pieces just astound me.
Last Shadow Puppets - In My Room mp3

Following on, I still absolutely adore 'In Rainbows', ok, it's an oldish album now but c'mon! It's pure genius, the only song I have a dislike for is 'Videotape', I currently really love listening to the clappable intro track, '15 Step'
Radiohead - 15 Step

Forth on today's list is; The Raconteurs! I was pleasantly surprised by new single, 'Salute your Solution', I never bothered to get the second album and I am seriously considering it soon, in the meantime I love this video!

Lastly, a song which is more poignant for me seeing as it is exam time at the moment, I did sehr gut in meine Deutsch sprechen exam(?) today, its The Metros, with 'Education Pt 2', its very catchy, but whatever happened to part 1?
The Metros - Education Pt 2 mp3

Enjoy!

Let's Split!

Posted In: , . By Nathan

I've decided for a split post of two completely different genres, with one band thats split up and the other band that is quite new but then again very samey unfortuantely

First up - The Stone Roses

Very good, very influential to the manchester scene, especially the band I think I hate more than any other, OASIS. God damn their arrogance! They attempt at the same album to be 'better' than Definitely, Maybe year in year out but the Stone Roses are a very special band, kicking off both Mani's and Ian Brown's careers in the music business and also the music which is probably some of the best ever made

The Stone Roses - Fools Gold mp3

The Stone Roses - I Wanna be Adored mp3

Well next, To My Boy, a band specialising in what NME describes as 'GameBoy' music, thats true alot of the music does remind me of 8bit gaming, Pokemon and Mario. The songs are really good upon first listen, but the album 'Messages' holds a few songs which is like ironically reading a different message thats basically saying the same thing as another, if you get that? Anyway, there are stand out tracks like the ones below

To My Boy - Model mp3

To My Boy - The Grid

I love the song, but they should hold back with the freaky dancing lolz

Yowzaaahs! That IS a Hot Chip

Posted In: . By Nathan

I think Hot Chip are amazing! They're definitely headed for superstardom with their 'Made in the Dark' LP, ok I think the album is hit and miss in my own opinion, especially the slower songs, yeah I really liked the song 'Colours' from their last album 'The Warning' but here, I don't like them, excpet 'One Pure Thought', that has both an amazing beat and a brilliant pop-art print based video that helps too.

However, I am surprised after 'Ready for the Floor' that they didn't release the better songs on the album as singles, like 'Hold On', 'Out at the Pictures' or the sending up of Justin Timberlake, 'Shake a Fist'

Hold On - Live on Later with Jools Holland

Don't you just love the whole 'Sounds of the Studio' game/bit thingy?

Hot Chip - Shake a Fist mp3

Ok, OK! The Vampire Weekend hype has pretty much abated, gone seeing as the album is out, I have to say that I did 'acquire' the album a while back now, but never gave it a proper, respectable listen, well to be honest all I did was play A-Punk, Oxford Comma and Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa repeatedly, totally ignoring the rest of the tracks which upon a recent file opening, I really enjoyed! Especially the one called Mansard Roof, the whole album is very infectious and I myself feel the lust for cheery upbeat indie pop blood.

Vampire Weekend - Mansard Roof

Also they performed amazingly on Jools Holland a couple of months back

Vampire Weekend - A Punk Live on Later with Jools Holland mp3

Well

Ok, started rather oddly with the Boris post but hey, Im hoping for the mp3s to be picked up by Hype Machine or Elbo.ws or somewhere! Well, its more about the music than anything else, I enjoyed reading this blog post below which inspired me to start one of my own

The name of this blog is obviously a Clockwork Orange reference for those who have read/seen it, I definitely recommend both versions, myself preferring the books ending.

Boris Johnson has been appointed mayor of London!

Hahahahahaha! I'm laughing at old Red Ken by the way, who would've have thought this time last year that Old Buffon Johnson would challenge the old Labourite at all or even win this election?

If I were David Cameron, I'd be shaking in my boots, giving this hilarious man a bit of power may make him hungry for more and who wouldn't love to see Mr Johnson beat a beleagured Mr. Brown to the seat of Prime Minister?

Seeing as this has nothing to do with music and this being a new music blog, I have to inform you that it has nothing to do with music other than me trying to find some music suitable for Mr Johnson and this turbulent time in politics.

I think the choices are suitable

Libertines - The Man Who Would be King

Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement

Joy Division - Leaders of Men
